Kind of makes cleverly covering up the sex scenes throughout the rest of the comic go to waste... Comic probably could have passed for Pg-13 if it weren't for this page. ^^; But it is wonderfully drawn as usual. Love all the happy bears and other cute animals, and it's great to have another page. (and it's a HUGE 'nother page at that)
This comic has always maintained a cartoon-like innocence despite having a very sexual underscore(what with Chuy and everything), guess I'm just a little disappointed to have that fade. [Reply]

Amazing. Simply amazing. I was surprised when I started to see nip, I thought that would be it, but... well, you just kept going. Not that I'm all "OMFG lesbian sex", but the way you handled this was just... wow.

Though of course lesbian sex is awesome.

The others have a point though, after all the toning it down throughout, funny as it was to have those scenes, it seems odd to toss this in. Kinda destroys the lower rating. [Reply]

Those who think this is too NSFW should look at Josh's comic Dr. Voluptua. Sure, this is a step up for Girly, but doesn't even register with his adult comic stuff. I think the point of this page was, like every other Girly strip, to go totally over the top, in this case with lesbian sex fantasies causing the emissions of cute animals that annihilate evil and restore life to the city. FUCK, have you read the rest of Girly? How the hell did you expect it to end?! It of course has to end with them vanquishing evil with the extreme of their love (god damnit, that sounds so corny, but it works in the context of this comic). 'Love' is how they've defeated most of the sidekicks before, and of course it's how they would defeat the queen. And if you've paid attention, this is not bestial sex. These girls love each other wholly.
Anyways, great fucking work, Josh. This was way more explicit than I ever expected Girly to get, but it fits and it shows that you're opening up about it. The comic is wrapping up nicely, as sad as that is.

Usually the case with webcomics is that the person in charge of it either isn't the best writer or isn't the best artist. You are good at both. I'm a little turned off by this page. Girly has been one of my favourite comics for years because it had a lesbian couple and was sexy without being pornographic. I felt like it treading that line between hilarious, not-so-subtle innuendo and explicitness beautifully, and this kind of ruined it. I mean, the focus was always more on the girls' adventures and emotional relationship, which was really refreshing. But the "climax" being explicit sex made it feel like you went through the story -just- so you could have sex. : And, I mean, I love your sex stuff. I love Dr. Voluptua. But I go into that knowing what I'm getting, and I liked how Girly and Voloptua were different sides of the same coin. It was kind of sad to just see them sort of...blend together. [Reply]

Surprised and maybe a little bit disappointed you did the full monty with this strip but it certainly was dramatic. Personally I think it would have worked just as well to have gone with the climax explosion on down and left the rest to the imagination, although the queen getting gobsmacked with Winter's dress was a hoot :)

Not really a complaint as I'm sure you've had hundreds of people begging you to draw just this, although at this point I'm pretty sure you draw exactly what you want to for this comic rather than what's expected or what people are asking for, which is a good thing. Count me among those who would have preferred the comic to not have suddenly started displaying the details of sexual intercourse. Some more basic cues as to what was going to happen (say, through the panel where the Queen gets Winter's dress thrown at her) could have been followed by the force field of animals and heart beams with the implied sex happening just off camera. The eventual explosion would then lead to a more "ohhh, I get what just happened here!" satisfaction from the reader than directly showing it.

It's one of those literary things - talking about sex is just generally more effective when it is somehow handled by proxy.

Call me weird, but I found Autumn struggling (and eventually succeeding) to not have sex with her roomate while inside El Chupacabre's body to be hotter than this. [Reply]

Okay, I liked and disliked this page. I very much respect Josh's right to do what he wishes with the comic, but I feel like Girly was always supposed to be a cute comic that didn't quite cross the line, but danced near it. The carefully cropped images, the hilarious innuendos, the tra la la action in place of actually showing sex, all of that. I just felt like it was weird to just toss that aside. I always liked the fact that this comic stayed relatively clean, as compared to your other stuff. It showed a range in ability to write stories...

This may only be the third new strip since I discovered this wonderful, epic comic but I could actually live with it being the last one, even if it actually isn't. Despite the fact that I, like others, was a little shocked to see the line that was so cleverly drawn being crossed it still feels like an appropriate ending to the story.

BTW, I had heard of the comic before but didn't actually get into it until I saw an ad mentioning "see how it ends." I really like the concept of a webcomic that has a continuing story and definitive ending. Great job and I look forward to whatever may follow. [Reply]

As far as I remember in reading Girly, it wasn't explicitly pornographic. It was a story of the two women, their relationship and adventures. Though there was sexual innuendo in the entire series, I feel that the finale where they show the power of their physical love to be quite fitting, instead of pornographic. :) Though seeing this page gives me a bit of bittersweet feelings, as I feel the ending of Girly is so near. Okay, admittedly, this was a big, big surprise. I didn't think I'd see porn outside of Dr. Voluptua -- I sort of agree with the others saying it feels out of place here.

However? In a way, despite how explicit it is, it is totally in keeping with the Girly tradition of being unbelievably over the top.

My initial reaction was "this is my NEW FAVORITE THING," and I think I will stand by that. Though porny and not what I was expecting -- this is a very suitably epic ending to this whole battle. For the people disapointed by the explicit portrayals of sex, keep in mind that not all sexual portrayals are pornographic. The sex portrayed here is hardly gratuitous, and despite the erotic nudity and explicit bits, there is clearly a thematic and artistic value that rises above pornography. Especially in the US, censorship rules have conditioned us to think that only pornography can depict sex, but art throughout the ages indicates otherwise. Kudos to Josh for using powerful sexual imagery in this comic where it has a role, and not gratuitously. (Not that I don't have a place in my heart for gratuitous lesbian sex, but I appreciate the distinction. Lesbian porn comics are much easier to find and much less impressive than the magnum opus that Josh has produced in Girly.)

I love the way the queen's face is eroded by the hurricane of love-force radiating from the heroes. It reminds me of the scene in Raiders of the Lost Ark where they opened the ark the "power of god" or whatever melted the nazis' faces. I also appreciate the way the bubble of lovely love around Otra and Winter repels the black missile-puffs from the queen with nonchalant "pwifs", leaving them undisturbed and apparently not even aware of the rages and rants of the once-powerful queen dickweed.

I can't decide if my favorite panel is the climactic love-splosion or the final panel. Or maybe the one where the queen gets "Whump!"ed with a giant heart! I guess if I had to pick I'd go with the last four panels as a set -- they form a kind of summary of the comic as a whole and capture the recurring theme of redemption through love. [Reply]

People are being pretty harsh at the ones who don't exactly favor this sudden turn for explicitness. Some of us have different opinions; just because we state it doesn't mean that we hate the author or that we're trying to be insulting. We're just stating our opinion, just like anyone else who is complimenting the comic or simply asskissing.
I'd like to say the comic was wonderfully drawn, but I think the explicit sex could have been avoided. Sure, the idea that lesbian sex beats the final bad guy in Girly is practically the only way it would end, but...I don't know. Like some others have said, I liked how Girly tended to dance around the actual act of sex.

I tried to read all the other comments, but it just got too long for me. I... can't say that I'm surprised by how this wound up but I was hoping that I'd be wrong. I don't have a problem with smut. I totally don't, but I like to know what I'm getting myself into. I like to categorize romantic relationships in three basic categories: cute/silly, passionate but focused on innuendo (the more subtle the better) and very passion (like holy crap they're having sex). My favorite type is the second one and the thing that kept me reading Girly when I went through all of the archive two years ago was exactly that. Whether intentional or not there's actually been some pretty complicated metaphors in between crazy hijinks.

But overall, this comic was pretty funny. I admit that I haven't been enjoying the recent pages all that much, but resolution has to come somehow and I understand it. The path taken to get there was actually pretty creative. The animals and the beams and the buildings all were perfectly in tune with what makes Girly, Girly. I just wish that the sex could have been a bit less striking. [Reply]

I'm actually not quite sure how I feel about this page... then again, I am a chronic equivocator, so make of that what you will. It was a good page, and I quite appreciated both freedoms in their respective sexual and artistic representations. Though I feel that perhaps, the blatant sexual element may have been too powerful; it was appropriate for the plot's climax/resolution, but given the precedent set by the comic, it honestly does feel that the higher sexual content was almost exploited simply for the purpose of fanservice or otherwise, when less could have translated the message perfectly well. But, I digress.

As an aside; all of you who think this is to ANY degree pornography should read up the definition of said word. This medium was produced to represent the power of the relationship between Otra and Winter defeating the evil queen; thus, one can infer it was most assuredly NOT made with the sole intent of providing the viewer with sexual gratification. A lot of folks are saying that Josh "crossed the line" or something like that, but isn't that supposed to happen in a finale? Besides, this is most likely how their child is conceived, so you all just witnessed a webcomic milestone as opposed to seeing a field of bears and unicorns and then hearing Otra say "WINTER IM PERGNANT". It's an emotional event, you guys, and it happened once. At the end of the comic. I guess alot of these comments just show how closed minded people are to sexual expression and what it can really mean. Too many still see it as "Oh my gosh no! Sinful, anything out of the bedroom for others to see is a no no!" Pff. The idea of the sex in this was to express LOVE. Hell it even says it. @Z You do realize that you are you are arguing with an opinion right? Opinions cannot be incorrect. Therefore you are arguing something that cannot be won and thus are doing the equivalent of beating your head against a brick wall. What was the purpose of your comment? To start an argument on the internet? Before communicating it is important to first identify what you are trying to accomplish by speaking/writing. In my case the intent was to leave my opinion as to how I felt after reading this particular page. I felt that the overall flavor of the comic had been compromised for a scene that felt very out of place, yet appealing to twelve year old boys. I understand what the author did. I was merely expressing my disdain for what he did.

Why you felt the need to insult me is beyond my comprehension. Calling me a doofus because I had a difference in opinion is the very kind of intolerance which breeds prejudice among other negative reactions.

English classes generally teach grammar, vocabulary, and rules for reading and writing the english language. They do not universally teach story structure and literary tools. Some do, but it is not the rule. The class I believe you are attempting to refer me to would be a creative writing class. This would be more likely to include the information that you assume I am not in possession of.

You seem like a well educated individual and I am sure you will be able to understand my point. [Reply]

Alright everyone first off I want to say this: Yes Girly was a cute romantic whacky insane ride of two girls and their love and adventures. But think about it, most of the most romantic relationships get to this point eventually, The bond of love that is manifested physically is a beautiful thing. Even as a girl, and even though I'm all for.guys, I thought this comic was interesting AND hot. Being an artist myself, I very much understand the critisism of others on my work. Artists create what other people want to see, not just what they want. It can go both ways. So I say quit arguing and let the critisism flow. Josh obviously doesn't care, because in the end, he gets the last laugh on what's drawn, and what isnt. I enjoyed this comic until the end, and Josh has shown and influenced me to draw whatever I want, because no one can take away your dreams. They can only sit and bitch about it, or compliment it.

Good job, Josh. Keep doing what you love to do, because there are more people who love uniqueness than normality or repetitivity. [Reply]

Anyone who sees this as "porn" doesn't really care about Winter and Otra, and that applies to both sides: people who felt this cheapened the comic and people who felt it was about time we got some action yeahhh (let's call them "Disappointed" and "DURR HOTT").

To the Disappointed: before, when Winter and Otra went at it, the comic coyly turned aside to allow them some privacy. There were rainbows and dolphins, and the innuendo was silly and sexy, yet we could still feel like a respectful audience. This time, when Winter and Otra's love -- and its expression -- was not only saving the world but vindicating everything they trusted in each other for since the begininning, how could the comic turn away? We as readers who love Winter and Otra feel shocked and not a little uncomfortable to be watching something so intimate; we don't want to be disrespectful yet the comic is showing us things we would have turned away from. Yet the girls feel no shame, nor have they from the beginning, so why should we? I tried to think of an appropriate yet coy solution, but it would have packed much less punch. I really appreciated that Josh gave us a whole series of facial close-ups right in the middle of the lovemaking to bring that point home -- this is not about sex. This is about Winter and Otra making love, and they don't care who sees because they only see each other. No two other girls could have done this.

To the DURR HOTT: This is Winter and Otra's grand triumph, reaffirming their love despite it having been seriously threatened not only by others but by themselves, and by the way also saving the town from a great evil. The fact that they are having crazy hot sex should make you feel like all is finally right with the world -- should make you jealous of their relationship -- should make you start trying to really love someone -- should make you feel thrilled for them -- should make you put down your laptop, grab an unconventional weapon, and seek adventures with someone you care about (note that this does not preclude sexy times). Thoughts like "ooooh! titties" and "drool hot lesbians" are just biology distracting you from a powerful message. This sex was not for us, it was never for us, and we should be grateful that its story was shared with us at all. I know I am. Thanks Josh. [Reply]
