Ah, the beginning. I hope this doesn't mean that it's all almost over. [Reply]
    Jonzay 2010/2/6 1:45am
Seems to be heading that way. [Reply]

I believe that Josh stated that it'll end in March or June. But I may be getting confuzzled up. In any case, this is a silly comic. But more and more as of late, it has become more serious, in a good way. And the art has become so very beautiful. Good job. [Reply]
    Zombossified 2010/2/6 2:52am
Josh, how do you color so evocatively with a limited color palette, to the point where I forgot you're only using like 4 colors? [Reply]
    Meow 2010/2/6 3:04am
I really do feel that it's going to come to an end soon.
    I'll definitely cry. [Reply]
    Sebastian 2010/2/6 3:51am
I feel like this is the first time Winter's parents have shown up in the comic outside of either A) A flashback or B) Shadowy silhouettes watching Winter [Reply]
    Cow Bell Man 2010/2/6 5:46am
    Such love. It's so beautiful.

I do have to say that some of the eye work kind of freaks me out for some reason. [Reply]
    Lolsworth 2010/2/6 6:45am
Yes, it's ending, Josh said it plenty o' times. In other news, Winter looking at Otra from behind the bench is the CUTEST GOD DAMNED THING THAT EVER THERE WAS [Reply]
    ChronoSamurai 2010/2/6 6:46am
@Sebastian WAIT isn't this one a flashback too? [Reply]
    Trae 2010/2/6 7:19am
Josh, you're pouring old on Winter's parents. They were rather young, maybe 20, when Winter was conceived, so they'd be around 39 or 40, since Winter is only 18. And considering the fact that they're definitely active adults, they really wouldn't look nearly that old.
I mean, you're giving them liver spots and wrinkles. They're middle aged, not senior citizens!
Besides that, the activity between Winter and Otra here is really well done. I really love the perspective of that last panel. Oh, and yes, Sebastian, this IS a flashback. [Reply]
    Jesusarus 2010/2/6 9:23am
Oh, I just cried a little. [Reply]
    Jesusarus 2010/2/6 9:24am
AND OH MY GOD SHE HAS EYES. [Reply]
    AM 2010/2/6 9:34am
Seconding the "too old" comment. Even if they were 50 something (and doing the math, I don't think they should be), they shouldn't look 70. God, do adventures age you THAT much?? D:

Other than that, this is a touching coming, the girls look lovely. [Reply]
    Shuffles 2010/2/6 11:26am
I'm more suprised that Xerox ceases to be copy-pasted. Maybe this is what happens to copy-pastes (Pasterians? Pastafarians?) when they get character development. Also it's nice to see Otra in the comic again. [Reply]
    Shiroi 2010/2/6 12:29pm
That was positively heart-warming. Great job, Josh. I also love the pictures of Collette in the wallet. Adorable. [Reply]
    Surprised Chuy 2010/2/6 1:38pm
XEROX IS NO LONGER CUT 'N PASTE, WHAT IS THIS I DON'T EVEN [Reply]
    Goober 2010/2/6 3:28pm
    Idon'tunderstandthewholecutpastething...

And it's taken me this long to realize it. >< [Reply]
    Sebastian 2010/2/6 4:47pm
    @ChronoSamurai
Gah. I meant like... the times Winter was reminiscing about them being weird when she was a child, this is more like exposition on what happened to them than anybody actually HAVING a flashback. [Reply]
    Rahentho 2010/2/6 4:50pm
Well @Surprised Chuy, I guess is just like @Shuffles said: when a cutepaste gets character evolution, it goes 2.5D. Also, Mr Lesnick, this comic deserves a MOVIE VERSION AS SOON AS POSSIBLE!!! What do you guys think? [Reply]
    LockeZ 2010/2/6 4:58pm
Man, they look about 70 or 80 years old. That's ridiculous. Did they have a time travel adventure while I wasn't looking? [Reply]
    Lulz 2010/2/6 5:12pm
wow, xerox has emotion expressions [Reply]
    Tony 2010/2/6 7:02pm
I have an RSS feed bringing these to me dutifully. How do these comments wash up here before I even get to the comic? Ha ha ha.

I want to do a webcomic badly. But, I don't have time to do much, for much longer. [Reply]
    Dee 2010/2/6 7:38pm
Since Winter's parents have probably been kinda abused in those experiments, the old age could be caused by that :0 [Reply]
    Chan 2010/2/6 10:26pm
    I love Winters parents.
God I love the coloring. <3
And yeah I think it's ending soon. D8 [Reply]
    LockeZ 2010/2/7 1:04am
It's no secret that the comic's ending soon. There were banner ads for Girly on other comic sites about two months ago that said "Girly: The final 25 (or so) comics!" So, we're probably down to 10 or 15 by now. [Reply]
    JustaQuestion... 2010/2/7 5:55am
Aghhh, tell me I'm stupid if you must (and I may easily be), but does it bother anyone else that they're not wearing in the "flashback"/"exposition" the outfits that they were wearing in the actual first comics?

    Rghh...sorry. :/ [Reply]
    pikamidge 2010/2/7 7:09am
    @JustaQuestion...
    #116
surely these are the same outfits from the first time Winter discovered Otra?

and i love this comic, even though Winter's parents look decidedly geriatric. [Reply]
    that-guy-who-wants-your-candy 2010/2/7 1:30pm
i see an ending soon *cries* OR the comic is going to start over...

    maybe

    Adam M 2010/2/7 3:19pm
So are we to infer from this that Business Sidekick was lying? Otra wasn't really a preprogrammed monstrosity when she met Winter after all, Xerox & Co. managed to contain the evil (until Chey released it again), and Business Sidekick was just trying to break Winter's spirit after successfully infecting Otra with the evil sidekick goo-thing?

I partly agree with those who say Winter's parents look too old, but Josh has limited options for showing their age in his art style. Graying hair is out due to the limited color palette, and he can't use "Hartman hips" to set them apart (look it up on TVtropes) because some younger characters like Winter already have that body type. That leaves things like dress, mannerisms, and skin condition. Cutewendy and Other Girl were too hip and weird to devolve into old lady clothes by their 40s and are still too young to call people "dearie" or talk about the Great Depression. So... lines and spots it is.

Also, I wonder what Yumi and Dr. Lucy are up to.

Double also, Stalker Winter is stalkerific. (And long comment is loooooong.) [Reply]
    Marcus 2010/2/7 3:35pm
Are they the same Lucy and Yumi from the old Wendy comic? I always wonder why that was never addressed. [Reply]
    PKMG 2010/2/7 3:56pm
AS far as comics go i like when a ending can happen correctly rather than just stopping abruptly as some webcomics I've read. if the rumors are true anyway. [Reply]
    Poopinablanket 2010/2/7 8:54pm
    Beautiful. [Reply]
    RuntyTiger 2010/2/7 9:39pm
Ah. And now it comes all together full cycle.

I am just wondering if Winter's mom name would ever be revealed lol. [Reply]
    Blazion 2010/2/7 11:02pm
Maybe they had an adventure with the fountain of youth. But instead of giving them youth it SUCKED THEIR YOUTH AWAY OH NOES. [Reply]
    JustaQuestion... 2010/2/7 11:27pm
    @pikamidge
I checked the first comics...I don't think they are. Otra had a leotard type getup goin' on, and Winter had on a floor-length dress with a turtleneck.

But whatevs. I wanna see what happens! [Reply]
    Martel 2010/2/7 11:45pm
This page is so beautiful. I WANT TO MAKE LOVE TO IT. [Reply]
    Miggitdog 2010/2/8 12:19am
@JustaQuestion... actually, this is a flash back to the first time Winter SAW Otra, not the of the first time they spoke. She followed her around for quite some time before introducing herself. [Reply]
    Indigo 2010/2/8 1:55am
    @Poopinablanket

I love your name, zomg. :D Sorry, just had to say that.

As relating to this update, I love the flashbacks. Josh, your coloring is beautiful. It's so artsy and modern, but not like any other comic. I have watched your art change and evolve over the years, and you now have a truly unique style. Bravo! :) [Reply]
    Matt 2010/2/8 9:18am
I'm pretty sure Josh said in a LJ entry that he plans on closing shop around here at comic # 750. So yeah, we're winding down for sure. [Reply]
    wishy 2010/2/8 9:55am
cries....what will i do without this... ill have to start hunting for a new comic to devote my life to lol [Reply]
    Megaron 2010/2/8 11:24am
I STILL don't get the cut-paste thing. [Reply]
    Trae 2010/2/8 3:34pm
@Megaron Instead of drawing Xerox over and over again, because Josh was a tad lazy, he copied and pasted the character. It's cheap comic-making, but he pokes fun at himself for it.
@JustaQuestion... This isn't happening during the first comics. Winter isn't going to talk to Otra for maybe a week or more after this flashback. She's just following her around right now. Those outfits ARE accurate to the stalker period before they met. Someone linked #116; go read that, you'll see it's accurate. [Reply]
    RGB 2010/2/8 4:09pm
Really? 750? Wow... it's almost done :'( [Reply]
    JustaQuestion... 2010/2/9 4:53am
    @Miggitdog
GOT IT. My OCD has been satisfied. Thank you. [Reply]
    Zoa 2010/2/9 8:48am
the story is advancing at an epic proportion... im quite taken by it = 3 [Reply]
    ... 2010/2/9 10:34am
I agree with everyone when I say that they look too old. [Reply]
    Kit-Kun 2010/2/9 2:07pm
I read it outloud and really understood how Wendy and the Other Girl felt about this. They are so greatful Winter found her sickkick and are willing to step back so she can have her adventures.

I also relize how deep the leader/sickkick relationship runs. Like a prefect love, it happens when you leat expect it. [Reply]
    Jason 2010/2/9 3:06pm
I smell endings... they upset the Force. [Reply]
    Worgen 2010/2/9 11:02pm
freebird goes well with this comic [Reply]
    Zoa 2010/2/12 12:50am
i've noticed this is the FIRST time that Xerox's expresion changes... ever! [Reply]
    Saiyza 2010/3/6 7:56pm
Okay, that's proof that Otra isn't a fake, but WHERE IS SHE?? [Reply]
    Sora Ryu 2010/3/28 11:10pm
    nearly made me cry [Reply]
    IttyBittySkinnyGirly 2010/6/2 8:26pm
    it sent shivers down my spine...it's just so touching ;_;
and Xerox wants the sidekick thing to happen to Coll...that's just so sweet...
    And that last paneeel!!! T_T
    enough :D [Reply]
    faithfully 2010/6/11 11:16pm
I love the perspective you put on the last panel, Josh. It creates a sort of magic, like I'm looking down to portal into Cute Town. [Reply]
